5 of the best Israeli street food

What's so special about Israel? Its a blend of cultures and religions, and with this comes the tasty and varied cuisine you will not find anywhere else. Here you will find the European «snitzshel» with the Iraqi «sabich» right next to each other.
We've come up with a list of 5 of the best israeli street food for your next visit to Israel.
Our top list street food is Hummus.
No.1 Hummus
If heaven had a taste, it must have tasted like hummus.
Hummus is one of Israel's best street foods! Unlike its version in the supermarket, here you will get it hot and fresh inside a bowel. You can add a topping such as chickpeas, mushrooms, and ful (a black lentil). Next to it you will probably get a few fluffy pita bread, onion, tones of olives, and falafel.
Don’t be shy and use the pita (we dare you to do it with onion as well) to wipe off all the hummus from your plat, this is how we do it.
The most famous places to check it out are, in Jaffa “Abu-Hassan”, “Lina” in Jerusalem and “Said” in Acre. However, you will find it all around Israel with a great taste as well.
No.2 Shakshuka
Except for the fact that this street food has the best name, what can go wrong when you mix poached eggs with tomato sauce? Shakshuka is originally from Tunisia but has many versions in the Middle East and North Africa. The key to this dish is its simplicity. Fry the onion, garlic, peppers with olive oil, add a tomato sauce with the spices and poach the eggs above and you have a shakshuka.
We strongly recommend to try this dish as a breakfast in the hotel you are staying or try out “Dr. Shakshuka” in Jaffa which is famous of his eggplant shakshuka dish.
No.3 Kubbeh Soap
This tasty dish is a semolina stuffed with meat and swimming in a tasty sauce normally with pumpkins or beets. As usual, a pita will be perfect.
That dish originated from Iraq. I would have called it, the Israeli dumplings. Eating four bolls of Kubbeh will be good enough for breakfast. Iraqi and Kurdish Jews traditionally serve it during the Sabbath and holidays. It is known as red Kubbeh soup because of its color.
Try this dish at Hakarmel Market in Tel-Aviv or Machne Yehuda Market Jerusalem at Rahmo Restaurant (Haeshkol st. 5) and you're going to fall in love.
No.4 Falafel
It is a green dish, fresh, delicious and regarded as an Israeli national dish!
This is a classic vegetarian «street-food» you buy inside, ready to travel «pita pocket».
Falafel is made of fried ground chickpeas in the shape of a ball and served with Israeli salad, pickles, hummus and tahini above all.
Be sure to buy fresh and get it warm and crisp!
Check out the «Falafel Gabay» in Tel-Aviv Bugrashov 25. Street.
No.5 Malabi
It is time for a tasty and intsegramble dish!
Pink and white are the winning colors of any classic dessert.
Malabi is a milk pudding with sweet rosewater. It combines perfectly with a filling of pistachios, coconuts and nuts.
A local's secret: Taste this dish at the entrance to the «Ein-Shemen» forest during the weekends.
If you are going there, make sure to see the magnificent Thai Pagoda Temple in the middle of this forest. This temple was donated as a gift by the government of Thailand indicate 50 years, both the government of Israel and the king of Thailand.
By the way, although Malabi is considered as a bad word in Chinese, but our Chinese tourists just love it.
